SAFETY RULES
Whenever Archery is practiced a competent person must always be in charge, that person must never leave the shooting line without first appointing a responsible adult to take charge in his/her absence, after making sure ALL OTHER participants know that the other person is in charge.
NEVER
Draw A Bow, whether loaded or unloaded, anywhere except on the shooting line in the direction of the Target, and then only if the range ahead is clear.
Cross the shooting line until the instructor gives the go ahead or two blasts on the whistle.
Shoot an arrow straight up into the air, you do NOT know where it will come down.
Run to the target, always walk to the side of the target, this way you do not walk into the arrow nocks protruding from the target and at the same time keep a lookout for any arrows that may have fallen short.
Stand immediately behind anyone drawing arrows from the target, you may get one in the eye.
ALWAYS
Keep an eye open for anything (animal or human) straying into shooting areas. A series of sharp blasts on the whistle or the shout of FAST by anybody is the order to stop shooting, remove the arrow from the string and wait for the signal to resume, a single blast from the whistle or a verbal order.
Targets should be sited with consideration for the public with at least 50yds overshoot and 20yds clear up each side of the range.
Examine equipment before allowing anyone to use it, bows, arrows and targets. If outside make sure the latter are securely tied to a stand and stand securely anchored down. Also place warning signs at all access points.
When bracing a bow, make sure there is no chance of it slipping, when braced see that the string is tight into the notches of the bow and is running along the centre line of the bow. Frayed strings must be replaced.
Make sure the arrows are ample long enough to avoid overdrawing them, check for and replace any loose fletches, throw out or straighten any bent arrows, if wooden one are used check for cracked or split one, destroy them.
Long Hair and loose clothing should be tied back, dangling earrings removed.
Equipment must NOT be left lying around to be trod on or tripped over.
All a matter of COMMON SENSE
